Fondue Fest Mission

Would you be willing to give some of your God-given time to make an impact for eternity on those in Fond du Lac? Fishermen’s Call has purchased a site at this year’s Fond du Lac’s Fondue Fest. Fondue Fest is a free, one-day festival commemorating the world’s largest fondue set while celebrating family, fun and community. Fondue Fest attracts over 15,000 visitors throughout the day of the festival. This effort will be evangelistic. We will be there to engage in conversation and to provide Gospel literature. This is a prime opportunity for us to obey our Lord’s command to seek and save the lost. Could you sit at a booth and pray for the Lord to bring souls to you and then have the joy of speaking to them the Gospel of Jesus Christ. All you need to bring is a passion for Christ and a heart for the lost. Fishermen’s Call will have the honor of partnering with Burnbrothers Ministries this year. Tracts and materials are provided by Fishermen’s Call and Burnbrothers Ministries. The event is held in Downtown Fond du Lac. Admission is free. The hours of Fondue Fest 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8. Any time you can commit is greatly appreciated. Please reply if you would be interested in assisting OR call me at (920) 602-6121. Those who reply to confirm their participation will receive more information on the location of the Fishermen’s Call booth at the Fondue Fest. If for any reason you cannot commit, please pray for us and for those whom the Father is drawing. Thank you. We look forward to laboring with you in preparing the way for the Lord.

John Owen’s Death – 1683

john-owen-03

John Owen (1616–1683) is regarded as one of the greatest theologians Britain ever produced. Owen has had an important historical and theological influence, and his significance is widely recognized today. 329 years ago John Owen finished his race and entered into the joy of his Master. Owen is known to be difficult in reading his works, but well worth the exercise. Today we thank Jesus for raising up the Prince of Puritans so that we might see clearly the glory of Christ in all his beauty. Here’s a taste of Owen:

“Do you mortify? Do you make it your daily work? Be always at it whilst you live; cease not a day from this work; be killing sin or it will be killing you.”

“Let no man think to kill sin with few, easy, or gentle strokes. He who hath once smitten a serpent, if he follow not on his blow until it be slain, may repent that ever he began the quarrel. And so he who undertakes to deal with sin, and pursues it not constantly to the death.”

“Christ is the meat, the bread, the food of our souls. Nothing is in him of a higher spiritual nourishment than his love, which we should always desire.”

“On Christ’s glory I would fix all my thoughts and desires, and the more I see of the glory of Christ, the more the painted beauties of this world will wither in my eyes and I will be more and more crucified to this world. It will become to me like something dead and putrid, impossible for me to enjoy.”

“When we realize a constant enemy of the soul abides within us, what diligence and watchfulness we should have! How woeful is the sloth and negligence then of so many who live blind and asleep to this reality of sin. There is an exceeding efficacy nad power in the indwelling sin of believers, for it constantly inclines itself towards evil. We need to be awake, then, if our hearts would know the ways of God. Our enemy is not only upon us, as it was with Samson, but it is also in us.”

Systematic Gospel

Recently I had an idea to systematize a handful of key Gospel verses and strung them into one, long complete sentence. I believe it’s thorough in Gospel proclamation, not Gospel application.

The Gospel is the good news in that while we were still sinners, God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, demonstrated His love for us by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, for our sake, to be made sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God, for Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring us to God, for those whom are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood, to be received by faith so that being justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life that is in Christ Jesus, since the powerful working of God has raised Him from the dead that those who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who for their sake died and was raised

Something For Your Consideration

Evangelism. The word may overwhelm you with joy, strike fear in your heart or make you thankful that it’s not your gift.

An agreeable definition of evangelism is the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by the public preaching and personal witness. Some Christians are gifted as evangelists, many are not. Evangelism is not a spiritual gift, but the loving responsibility of all Christians.

Here are some powerful quotes to stir up compassion and conviction:

“You have nothing to do but to save souls. Therefore spend and be spent in this work. And go not only to those that need you, but to those that need you most… It is not your business to preach so many times, and to take care of this or that society; but to save as many souls as you can; to bring as many sinners as you possibly can to repentance.”

  • John Wesley

“When we share our faith, it is a win/win situation. If people accept what we say, we win. If we plant the seed of God’s Word, we win; and even if we are rejected, we win. The Bible says that when that happens, the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon us (1 Peter 4:14). When we contend for the faith and are rejected, we are to rejoice and leap for joy, for great is our reward in heaven (Luke 6:22,23) It is a winning situation every single time that we share our faith!”

  • Mark Cahill

“Even if I were utterly selfish and had no care for anything but my own happiness, I would choose, if God allowed to be a soul winner, for never did I know perfect, overflowing, unutterable happiness of the purest and most ennobling order till I first heard of one who had sought and found a Savior through my means.”

  • Charles Spurgeon

“I can tell you that there is no greater joy than leading someone to faith in Jesus Christ. Even if they reject your message, it still feels great to obey Christ. Yet regardless of how we feel, we need to remember that this is what He has commanded.”

  • D. James Kennedy

“Why does the Church stay indoors? They have a theology that has dwindled into a philosophy, in which there is no thrill of faith, no terror of doom, and no concern for souls. Unbelief has put out the fires of passion, and worldliness garlands the altar of sacrifice with tawdry glitter of unreality.”

  • Samuel Chadwick

“Each person we meet on a daily basis who does not know Christ is hell-bound. That may make some folks bristle – but it’s a fact. When we refuse to warn people that their actions and lifestyles have eternal consequences, we’re not doing them any favors. If everybody feels good about his or her sin, why would anyone repent?”

  • Franklin Graham
